There’s a reason that vitamin B12 supplements are some of the most sought out vitamin supplements on the market. Vitamin B12 has a range of benefits, some include:

  • increasing energy levels
  • improving mood
  • protecting memory

What is vitamin B-12?

Vitamin B-12, or cobalamin, is a nutrient you need for good health. It’s one of eight B vitamins that help the body convert the food you eat into glucose, which gives you energy. Vitamin B-12 has a number of additional functions. You need this vitamin supplement for the:

  • production of elements of DNA
  • production of red blood cells
  • regeneration of bone marrow and the lining of the gastrointestinal and respiratory tracts
  • health of your nervous system, which includes your spinal cord
  • prevention of megaloblastic anemia

In vitamin supplement form, some vitamin B12 benefits may include:

  • Supporting a healthy metabolism and facilitating nutrient absorption.
  • Fighting fatigue, sluggishness and other symptoms related to low energy.
  • Helping improve concentration/focus.
  • Treating pernicious anemia (vitamin B12 shots or high oral doses of vitamin B12 are usually used in this case).
  • During pregnancy, ensuring that the mother and unborn baby both get enough vitamin B12, which is important for brain development and other functions.
  • Benefiting skin health by reducing redness, dryness, inflammation and acne blemishes.
  • Lowering the risk for cognitive issues tied to deficiency, such as difficulty focusing, poor memory and an increased risk for attention disorders.
  • Preventing nerve damage and muscle weakness caused by deficiency.
  • Treating headaches, nausea and dizziness.

Why taking Vitamin B12 + Folate is Better!

Vitamin B12 with Folate (Folic acid or Vitamin B9), are both members of the B-Complex group and have unique roles in the body both individually and together.

These two key essential vitamins also have the important role of preventing cell damage caused by homocysteine. Homocysteine is a toxic amino acid created by the body and a major risk factor for:

  • cardiovascular disorders
  • neurological disorders
  • bone disorders

Homocysteine levels tend to increase with age and with the accumulation of lifestyle factors such as:

  • Smoking
  • Alcohol consumption
  • Eating a diet high in processed food.

The body naturally recycles homocysteine to prevent build-up but inadequate stores of B12 and folate hinder this process. For this reason, it is better to take a B12 Vitamin Supplement with Folate.

GNA Naturals has a liquid Vitamin B12 with Folate (Folic acid or Vitamin B9), both members of the B-Complex group and have unique roles in the body both individually and together. Though they can be taken separately, maintaining proper ratio of these two nutrients can prevent you from masking a potentially dangerous deficiency that can lead to nerve damage.

We insure the proper balance of both vitamins. GNA Naturals B12 is Methylcobalamine (most bioavailable active form of B12) and our Folate is Methyltetrahydrofolate (5-MTHF - the most bio-available active form of folic acid).

Although vitamin B12 is an essential vitamin that we need to develop and function properly, what happens when we take too much of it?

There isn’t a tolerable upper intake level for vitamin supplement B12, as it’s considered a vitamin with low levels of toxicity. That means that there’s no maximum daily dose that’s known to cause adverse effects to the general population.

However, there are some groups of people that may be at a greater risk of vitamin B12 overdose. This includes people with:

  • Kidney and liver disease
  • Those with diseases related to the blood
  • Women who are pregnant.

How long does it take for vitamin supplements of B12 to start working?

There's no way to predict how long it will take for vitamin B12 to start working. The length of your B12 deficiency recovery depends on several different factors, including how severe your deficiency is and whether your body can absorb vitamin B12 the way it's supposed to.

In vegans and other people whose vitamin B12 deficiency is diet-related, oral B12 vitamin supplements and a diet designed to increase consumption of vitamin B12 should cure the condition.

How much B12 should you take a day?

The ideal dose of vitamin supplement B12 varies based on your gender, age, and reasons for taking it.

The following factors may put you at a higher risk of not getting enough vitamin B12 from diet alone:

  • following a vegetarian or vegan diet
  • being over 50 years old
  • gastrointestinal disorders, including Crohn’s disease and celiac disease
  • surgery on the digestive tract, such as weight loss surgery or bowel resection
  • metformin and acid-reducing medications
  • specific genetic mutations, such as MTHFR, MTRR, and CBS
  • regular consumption of alcoholic beverages

If you’re at risk of deficiency, taking a supplement may help you meet your needs. Usually 1000mcg a day will help with people who have B12 deficiency and for those who don’t, it helps with increase energy, mood and metabolism of carbs.

Can B12 vitamin supplements make you sleepy?

Vitamin B12 has a big role in stabilizing your energy levels. It actually helps give you more energy, rather than making you tired. If you do notice feeling a little fatigued, even though you’re regularly taking a B12 vitamin supplement, it’s likely a sign of something else that is out of the norm in your body. Go see your doctor to get the proper diagnosis and treatment.

Can low B12 levels cause weight gain?

Despite the numerous processes in which vitamin B12 is involved, there’s little evidence to suggest that it has any influence on weight gain or loss.

Observational studies cannot confirm whether low vitamin B12 levels are what caused the weight gain, nor whether they’re what protected against low levels. That said, the current evidence is too weak to suggest that a vitamin B12 deficiency has any strong or specific impact on weight — be it weight gain or loss.

GNA Liquid Vitamin D3 - The Sunshine Vitamin

What is Vitamin D3?

Vitamin D3, also known as the "sunshine vitamin" is an essential fat-soluble vitamin that is naturally present in very few foods. Although classified as a vitamin, it should be considered a prohormone because it is involved in many metabolic processes in the body.

This vitamin plays a role in calcium and phosphorus balance which is crucial for bone health, and nerve and muscle activity. Vitamin D3 also regulates blood pressure, immune function, cell production and insulin secretion.

Why Do You Need Vitamin Supplement D3?

Vitamin D3 is vital to several different aspects of our health. Although it’s mostly known for its ability to strengthen the bones and boost calcium absorption, very few know that it’s also involved in:

  • immune function
  • disease prevention
  • mood / S.A.D regulation
  • weight control

In fact, a deficiency in this vitamin D3 can cause issues like hair loss, chronic pain, and decreased wound healing. Since vitamin D3 is found in very few food sources naturally, it is difficult to meet your needs through diet alone. Additionally, many people are also at a higher risk of vitamin D deficiency, this group may include older adults, overweight individuals and those living in northern latitudes (lack of sunlight).

Did you know that vitamin supplement D3 stands out from other micronutrients because it’s one of the few vitamins that your body is able to produce all on its own?

Your skin is actually able to synthesize vitamin D when exposed to sunlight.

Unfortunately, many of us lack this key nutrient as we either live in the Northern Hemisphere where we don’t get enough sunlight, or we are not showing skin while in the sun. This results in vitamin D3 deficiency, and since it’s found in very few food sources, it’s often necessary to take a vitamin D3 supplement to help meet your daily needs.

If you are not able to get outside and get enough sun, then our emulsified Vitamin D3 can provide you with the next best thing. We offer high quality, fast absorbing, vital nutrients which provide optimal results when Mother Nature can't.

Did you know that Vitamin D3 plays an integral role in bone metabolism?

Research shows that in addition to increasing calcium absorption, vitamin D3 is also involved in the metabolism of phosphorus, another key mineral that supports bone health. According to one study in the Journal of Mid-life Nutrition, low levels of vitamin D3 were associated with decreased bone mineral density in women.

How Do Vitamin D3 and Calcium Work Together?

Calcium and vitamin D3 are two important micronutrients that work together in the body to support overall health. The complex vitamin D3 and calcium relationship is especially crucial when it comes to bone metabolism, as both are integral to maintaining the strength of the skeleton.

Calcium serves as the key structural component of bones, and an estimated 99 percent of the body’s calcium is stored in the bones alone. A lack of calcium can cause serious side effects, including bone loss and osteopenia, a condition that is characterized by a weakening of the bones in the body.

However, getting enough calcium through diet or supplementation isn’t always enough to protect against bone loss. In fact, having low vitamin D and high calcium levels can still lead to osteopenia and osteoporosis. This is because vitamin D helps facilitate the absorption of calcium, allowing the body to use it more effectively.

Including an array of foods high in calcium and vitamin D in your diet and selecting a high-quality supplement can optimize vitamin D and calcium absorption. Plus, taking the two together can maximize the potential health benefits of these power-packed micronutrients.
